European Voluntary service

On 10th of May 2016 the Diocesan Caritas Ostrava- Opava organized its first event in Ostrava Impact Hub concerning European Voluntary Service (EVS) and volunteers who our organisation host or coordinate. The aim of this event was to inform youth at the age of 17-30 about the possibility of this service and provide them with detailed information. The event was also held at the occasion of 20th anniversary of EVS.

The event started at 5 p.m. when coordinator of the volunteers welcomed the participants and informed them about the possibility to go abroad and about the conditions and possibilities of programme Erasmus+.

Then the volunteer Elvina and Anastasia from Russian Orenburg and Krasnodar presented. They told us about their volunteering, how many cities and states they visited, which cultural shock they experienced and the differences in Czech and their native language. The series of presentation was finished by volunteer Eva who comes from German Leipzig. She is in the Czech Republic thanks to voluntary programme of German association Aktion Sühnezeichen Friedensdienste and the Czech organisation Servitus. She told us about her work with children in charity center of J. Magone and also about the work with seniors who became the victims of Nazism. Eva told us a lot of things about volunteering and how unique and unrepeatable this opportunity is.

To our big pleasure a singer Albert Černý from the band Lake Malawi accepted our invitation to the event and made the afternoon more pleasant by singing few songs.

By this article we would like to thank to Albert Černý for giving us his time and came to us but also to our volunteers who prepared perfect presentations.
